Cllr Chris Barnfather
Cllr Chris Barnfather represents the Ravenshead division, where he has lived for over 30 years. He was first elected to the County Council to represent Ravenshead in 2009, where he has also served as a Parish Councillor since 2007 and a Gedling Borough Councillor since 2011, where he represents the Newstead Abbey ward and is Leader of the Gedling Conservative Group.
Chris retired from Nottinghamshire Police in 2004 whilst holding the rank of Detective Superintendent, after more than 34 years with the Force. He is currently the Chairman of Governors at the Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth and was also a governor for 12 years at Abbey Gates Primary School in Ravenshead.
Since being elected to the County Council, Chris has served as the Conservative Group's Business Manager as well as Chairman of the Planning & Licensing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Transport & Highways Committee. He has also sat on the Nottinghamshire Police Authority, the Combined Fire and Rescue Authority, and committees including Community Safety, Culture, Pensions and Policy.
Chris has a strong belief in the role and value of local government and the need for greater effectiveness and efficiency in local service delivery. He believes that "local decisions should be made by local people" and that those decisions should be locally accountable. He believes that by serving on both the Borough and County Councils he is able to provide a ‘One Stop Shop’ for residents to access advice and assistance with local services and to provide continuity and consistency in the communication of their opinions and influence across all local authorities.
Chris is available to meet constituents at any mutually convenient time and place.
