Cllr Philip OwenCouncillor Philip Owen was first elected to Nottinghamshire County Council to represent the Nuthall division in 2005 and was re-elected to represent the new Nuthall & Kimberley division in 2017. He was also elected in May 2015 to represent the Nuthall East & Strelley ward at Broxtowe Borough Council, having previously served on the Borough Council from 1983.
Philip is the Chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee, working with fellow councillors to ensure that young people across Nottinghamshire are able to thrive with a good education and high standard of care. With a long career as a teacher and assistant headteacher, Philip has a great deal of experience to give to the role and is a strong voice in standing up for Nottinghamshire’s children. Philip was born in Bulwell and has always been involved in education, gaining a BSc from the University of Strathclyde and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham. He taught at a boys' grammar school in Rugby before moving back to Nottingham to work at Eastwood Comprehensive and then Quarrydale School in Sutton-in-Ashfield, where he was Assistant Head Teacher until 2005. Philip holds regular advice surgeries, and is also available to meet constituents at a mutually convenient time and venue.
